The purpose of a storyboard is to tell the designer’s story. A storyboard is a collage of illustrations and images displayed for the purpose of pre-visualizing a garment or the whole fashion collection. The storyboard may include original illustrations of a designer, flats/production drawing and additional materials such as photos from magazines, fabric swatches and fabric patterns that have influenced the design.

A mood board, also known as an inspiration board, sets the atmosphere and energy of the future design idea/s. It helps designers to gather some ideas and inspiration before they actually start designing. A mood board consists of a collection of just about anything- cut outs from the magazines, photos, color samples, fabric swatches, text and 3D objects to represent the designer’s concept. A mood board helps designers to define the direction of their project. Images should interpret the mood of the theme. Many designers choose to create a digital mood board instead of an actual paper based board. |
